Dan Fagen is a music educator and multi-instrumentalist based in New York City. Dan grew up in Staten Island, New York where he began playing the piano at the age of five. He soon after switched to clarinet, and later took up the saxophone as his playing focus shifted toward jazz. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Binghamton University where he double-majored in Music and Psychology. Dan studied saxophone with Michael Carbone and April Lucas at Binghamton, where he played lead alto saxophone in the Harpur Jazz Ensemble, performed with the university's jazz combo, and performed in Classical recitals. He then attended Teachers College, Columbia University where he received a Master of Arts degree in Music & Music Education as well as New York State Teaching Certification. He currently teaches 6-8th grade band at MS 54 - Booker T. Washington Middle School on Manhattan's Upper West Side.
As a performer, Dan is the saxophonist for singer/songwriter Matt Longo's folk rock project "Thin Lear". He has performed with the New Amsterdam Symphony Orchestra and the Philharmonic of Southern New Jersey. As a clarinetist, he has appeared with the Lehman College Chamber Orchestra. Dan also enjoys playing and performing pop and folk music on guitar with his sister Emily, who is a vocalist. In his free time, he is an avid traveler and cyclist.
